「120時間の夢:專汰と花奈のダブリン脱出記」
June 30th, off to Ireland.
Once again, it's a whirlwind two-night, five-day escapade to Dublin.
Our journeys always seem to take this shape.
"Where's the fun in that?
you might ask. Well, it's the sheer joy of laying eyes on entirely different worlds—foreign cities and their peculiar architectures. And, of course, the heartwarming banter with the locals.
But truth be told, the real master of our itinerary is the dog we left guarding the house. Five or six days is the absolute limit we can push it. We always have to buffer our trips with an extra day before or after for our furry friend's sake.
For this Dublin adventure, we tacked on an extra day at the end.
June 30: NRT - AUH (Flight EY871)
July 01: AUH - DUB (Flight EY45)
July 03: DUB - AUH (Flight EY42)
July 03: AUH - NRT (Flight EY878)
The pups will stay an extra night at the pet hotel, to be picked up the day after we return.
This entry covers the views from Narita Airport all the way to Abu Dhabi Airport (a slight correction from Dubai!).
The evening Etihad flight utilizes the SKY TEAM lounges, so we found ourselves in the Delta lounge at Narita. Given the late hour and the scarcity of departing flights, the place was practically deserted. We wandered all the way to the back and finally settled in. It felt remarkably like the old Alitalia lounge in Rome as we bid farewell to a twilight Narita.
Sipping our welcome drinks, we took off southward out over the Pacific. We crossed the Boso Peninsula along the coast and headed out over Sagami Bay. The silhouette of Mount Fuji across Tokyo Bay from up here is simply magnificent.
We flew inland down to Kyushu, enjoying dinner and a little dessert. From there, we passed over Incheon and Beijing. Flying over China means staring into the pitch black—who knows exactly where we are? As always, the Wi-Fi dropped out, so it was time to say goodnight.
When I opened my eyes, we were already clearing the Himalayas, passing through India, and cruising over Pakistan. Was the meal they served breakfast? Since we arrive at night, I suppose it's dinner. Rather heavy on the meat for an old lady's stomach, wouldn't you say?
Once we passed over Muscat, Oman, the reddish-brown earth came into view below. Landing was imminent.
Transits in the Arab states are always a bit of a snoozefest. The layovers are long, and there's frankly nothing to do. We usually arrive in the dead of night when the shopping malls are shut tight. Giving up, we sought refuge in the lounge. The scenery here is completely different from the daytime, and the food options are sparse. Not that it matters much to someone with dietary restrictions like me.\n\nIdling the time away, we waited for the boarding gate announcement, ready to leave this lounge behind and push forward to the next city.
Our bullet trip from Narita to Dublin, Ireland, has only just begun. From here, we fly onward to Dublin.
---> To be continued.
